Why this matters

Helping children and young people reach a classroom, stay in it, and leave with real options for their future.

Almost every parent we meet wants their children educated. The barrier is rarely desire; it is fees, distance, a missing uniform, a harvest that failed, or a school with more pupils than chairs.

Our education work removes those specific, practical barriers — and then attends to whether learning is actually happening once a child is inside the building. Enrolment is easy to count. Literacy, confidence and genuine opportunity are harder, and they are what we are actually after.

We invest in teachers as much as in pupils, because a well-supported teacher changes hundreds of lives over a career.

What we do

The work in detail

Specific activities, delivered by partner churches and community leaders.

School access support

Help with fees, uniforms, books and equipment for children whose families cannot cover the cost — arranged discreetly so no child is marked out in front of classmates.

Teacher development

Practical training in classroom management, reading instruction and working with large, mixed-ability classes, alongside peer networks where teachers learn from one another.

School feeding

A reliable meal at school, which keeps children present, alert and learning — and relieves real pressure on households.

Reading and catch-up clubs

Small-group sessions for children who have fallen behind or missed years of schooling, often run after hours by trained community volunteers.

Safe, usable classrooms

Repairs, furniture, sanitation and lighting — the unglamorous work that determines whether a school day is bearable, particularly for girls.

Skills and vocational training for young adults

Tailoring, carpentry, agriculture, computing and small-business skills for young people who have left formal education, paired with mentoring as they start out.

How we work

Principles specific to this ministry

  • We work through existing schools and community structures rather than building parallel ones.
  • Girls' attendance is tracked deliberately, because it is usually the first to fall.
  • Support follows the child, including when a family relocates.
  • Head teachers and parent committees help set priorities each year.

What we look for

The change we are actually after

  • Children who had dropped out return and complete the school year.
  • Teachers report greater confidence and stay longer in post.
  • Young people finish training with a skill they can actually earn from.
  • Parents begin to plan for their children's education rather than react to each term's costs.

These are described qualitatively on purpose. No statistics have been invented for this website — verified figures will be published in our annual reporting.
