Careers

Work somewhere that expects you to disagree with it

We are small, the work is demanding, and we would rather tell you what a job actually involves than what it sounds like.

These are illustrative role descriptions, not live vacancies

No openings are currently advertised. The roles below describe the kinds of position this organisation would recruit for, so that the careers section is complete and functional.

No salaries, locations, contract types or closing dates have been invented — each appears as a marked placeholder. Replace the entries in src/data/involvement.ts with real vacancies when recruiting.

Roles

The kinds of position we recruit for

Working here

Our employment commitments

  • We recruit on merit and we say what the job actually involves.
  • Everyone completes safeguarding training, regardless of role or seniority.
  • We expect staff to be able to challenge leadership, and we protect people who do.
  • Trustees are unpaid volunteers.
  • [Add the organisation's equal opportunities statement and any occupational requirements here.]

Being honest

Things you should know before applying

  • We are small. There is no large team behind you and you will do your own admin.
  • Programme roles involve travel to partner communities, sometimes in difficult conditions.
  • You will encounter distressing situations, and we will expect you to have support around you.
  • We move slowly on purpose, which some people find frustrating.
  • We expect staff to challenge leadership, and we protect people who do.
  • Salaries are modest compared with the commercial sector. We will be upfront about them.

How we recruit

We advertise openly, shortlist against the criteria in the job description, and tell unsuccessful candidates promptly rather than leaving them wondering.

Interviews involve a practical task related to the actual job, because a conversation alone tells you surprisingly little. We share the questions in advance, since testing whether someone can think under ambush conditions is not testing anything we need.

Safeguarding in recruitment

Every role is subject to safeguarding checks appropriate to it, and every appointment requires references we actually follow up. Roles involving contact with children or vulnerable adults require background checks to the extent local law allows.

Safeguarding training is mandatory for everyone, including senior leaders and trustees. There are no exemptions for seniority.

Speculative applications

We keep them, and we do read them. If you have skills we are likely to need — monitoring and evaluation, finance, safeguarding, or a relevant language — tell us even when nothing is advertised.

Nothing here that fits?

Send us a speculative application. We keep them on file and we do read them.
